EZGO Serial Number Guide

E-Z-GO has used several different manufacturer's codes and serial numbers over the years.  We'll start by covering some of the earlier years.

1970-76

Format 1: 914X 1234 (1971 3 Wheeler)

  • 1st digit = 9th month of production
  • 2nd digit = year of production (1971)
  • 3rd/4th digits = If one 4, vehicle is a three wheeler; If two 4’s, vehicle is a 4 wheeler
  • X = Insignificant
  • Four digits at end = sequential number off the production line

Format 2: 12344X1114 (1973 4 Wheeler)

  • 1st/2nd digit = 12th month of production
  • 3rd digit = year of production (1973)
  • 4th/5th digits = If one 4, vehicle is a three wheeler; If two 4’s, vehicle is a 4 wheeler
  • X = Insignificant
  • Four digits at end = sequential number off the production line

1977-2004

*For these formats, the letter always represents the month.  However, “A” does not represent January.  It represents the first month of production for that year.  Usually, production begins in July or August, but can vary by year.  As a general rule, we start with July as “A”, the  August as “B” and so on.

Format 1: 781211 123456 (1978 Model)

  • 1st/2nd digits = year of production (1978)
  • 2nd/3rd digits = 12th month of production
  • 4th/5th digits = day of month (11th day)
  • Six digits at end = sequential number off the production line

Format 2: L101 – 123456 (June 1st, 2002)

  • 1st digit = L month. If July is A, the L is June of the following year
  • 2nd digit = 1 day of the month
  • 3rd/4th digits = year of production (2001)
  • Six digits at end = sequential number off the production line

Format 3: A1288 – 123456 (July 12th, 1988)

  • 1st digit = A month is July
  • 2nd/3rd digits = 12th day of month
  • 4th/5th digits: year of production (1988)
  • Six digits at end = sequential number off the production line

Format 4: 96D12 – 123456 (October 12th, 1996)

  • 1st/2nd digits = year of production (1996)
  • 3rd digit = D month is October
  • 4th/5th digits = 12th day of month
  • Six digits at end = sequential number off the production line

All modern E-Z-GO golf cars have a serial number and manufacturer's code in or under the passenger side dashboard storage compartment. The manufacturer's code is used to determine the year the car was made, not the serial number.

EZGO Serial Location     EZGO Serial Plate

The specific order of the numbers changed over the years, but the manufacturer's code always has a letter and the last two digits of the year it was made incorporated in the code. The serial number is either 6 or 7 digits, but it does not indicate the model year.

Prior to 1976, the serial number plate was under the driver's side seat, just behind the battery closest to the driver, or on the fender skirt. Determining the year the car was made on these earlier cars is fairly complicated. If you call us or send an e-mail, we'll try to help you determine the year your car was made.

In the mid-2000’s, E-Z-GO changed the format and location of their vehicle information.  They no longer included the manufacturer’s code, and instead of a plate inside the passenger’s side dash compartment, they simply apply a sticker under the choke plate (on gas carts) or under the charger receptacle (electric carts).  This system is much harder to decipher.

Along with this sticker below the choke plate or charge receptacle, there is also another location to look for your ID numbers.  Lift the seat and look rearward toward the differential.  Lift the front flap of the black plastic access cover.  Just beneath and behind the flap is a steel frame member running side to side on the cart.  On this frame member, there is another sticker containing the serial number and other identifying information.

And last, but not least, the EZGO RXV golf cart and 2FIVE Low Speed Vehicle have a serial number location unique to their models.  They both feature a sticker located at the bottom of the steering column.  A second sticker is installed underneath the front end.  You must get on the ground on the driver's side of the vehicle and look through the top of the wheel well towards the frame.  The sticker is installed onto the central frame member as shown below.
