Yamaha Separately-Excited Electric Motors

Yamaha Separately-Excited Electric Motors

GolfCarCatalog offers a wide variety of golf cart motors specific to Yamaha. Within this section you will find electric motors for separately-excited golf carts and utility vehicles.

Series-wound and separately-excited motor systems are fundamentally different technology, and are NOT cross-compatible. On Yamaha golf carts the simplest way to identify your drive system is to identify the battery voltage. The 36 volt range of golf carts (G1, G2, G8, G9, G14, and G16 models) are series-wound, and the  48 volt range of golf carts (G19, G22, and G29/Drive models) are separately-excited. If you have a run/tow switch, your vehicle has a separately-excited drive system. If it does not, you have a series-wound drive system.

For Yamaha utility vehicles, look under the seat for a run/tow switch. If you have a run/tow switch, you have a separately-excited drive system. If you do not have a run/tow switch, you have a series-wound drive system.
