Ignition Coils

Ignition Coils

Golf Car Catalog offer ignition coils for a wide variety of golf carts including Club Car, EZGO, Yamaha, Columbia, Harley, and Cushman.

Ignition coils take a small electrical signal from the Ignitor, greatly boosts the voltage and sends it to the spark plug where it fires the gasoline mixture in the engine cylinder. To test a coil, insert a spare spark plug into the plug lead and hold it about 1/8" away from the engine frame (CAUTION! be sure to keep the test plug away from the spark plug hole). Turn on the key and crank the engine over (CAUTION! Hold the spark lead with a plastic pliers so you do not get shocked by the spark). The resulting spark should be blue in color, thick in diameter and should extend 1/4" to 1/2" as you draw the test plug away from the ground. A short, weak spark with yellowish/orange color indicates a poor spark which can compromise the starting & power of the engine. A weak spark does not necessarily mean a bad ignition coil.  it could also be the ignitor.
