Common Starter-Generator Brushes and Parts

Golf Car Catalog offers a great selection of starter generators, pulleys, brackets, brushes, and other components for many golf cart brands and models, as well as utility vehicles and personnel carriers. The components within this category may also reside under specific manufacturer pages as well, but are common to many golf cart applications.

The starter generator is both a starter and a generator (alternator), in one unit.  When the accelerator pedal is depressed on a gas golf cart, the accelerator micro switch sends power to the solenoid, which then closes to complete the starting circuit.  The power is then connected from the battery via the solenoid to the starter generator. The unit begins to spin a starter belt, which spins another pulley on the drive clutch. This spinning action causes the crankshaft to turn forcing the piston up and down. At the same time, the fuel is pumping and the ignition spark is being applied to "start" the engine. Once the engine is running on its own combustion power, the starter generator ceases to acting as a starter and becomes a generator to supply power back to the 12 volt battery for recharge.
