This is a complete 4 gauge power cable set which includes the battery, the forward and reverse, the controller and the motor cables, for use with 36 volt Medalist and TXT model E-Z-GO golf carts made from 1994 to present. These cable sets will also work on many electric utility vehicles of the same time frame. Please review all notes below carefully prior to ordering.
We have one pre-made power kit for DCS and PDS cars, as well as one kit for non-DCS and non-PDS cars, also called series carts. If your golf cart has a tow/maintenance switch on the controller housing, than you have a PDS or a DCS car. If you do not have this switch, then your have a non-DCS/non-PDS car. Neither kit available from this page wil work for the 2008-Up RXV 48V AC Powered RXV golf cart models.
NOTE: The PDS/DCS cable set does NOT include wires from the F1 and F2 on your controller back to the F1 and F2 motor terminals. These wires control the power to the field of your DC motor from the electronic speed controller. As with any performance upgrade on a cart with a separately excited regen motor, the power to these terminals does NOT increase and therefore the wires do NOT need to be upgraded.
If you are installing high performance upgrades into your electric cart such as High Speed Gears, Heavy Duty Forward and Reverse Switches, High Speed or High Torque Motors, or Higher Amperage Controllers, you may often need to upgrade you power cables as well. Your current 6 gauge cables may have been sufficient to carry the 225-300 amps of the stock set-up, but when you try to run more amps through the same gauge cable, this creates resistance. In electrical terms, resistance causes heat and heat leads to melting. Be sure to keep a close eye on all power wires following any high performance upgrades. If any wires feel overly hot (warm is okay), you might want to consider a 4 gauge power cable kit to correct this problem.
Features of these 4 gauge cables include:
- 392 strands of 30 gauge 100% copper wire
- Very flexible and easy to install
- Low electrical resistance for reduced heat and superior performance
- Terminals are unilaterally crimped (from all four sides evenly by a pneumatic crimper). Please click on the picture to view the crimp in a larger view.
- Braised barrel lugs are NOT soldered. We have determined through 40 years of independent research along with the recommendations of electrical engineers that soldered lugs are NOT better. Solder is actually used to bond the strands to the barrel in cases where a less desirable or even wrong cripming tool is used. Solder (of any kind) also adds excess resistance into the cable, causes heat and that is exactly oppositive of the desired effect for any electric vehicle. If the proper 4 way crimping tool is used, solder is not needed and is actually a hinderance to optimal electric vehicle performance. A quick resistance test on s soldered vs. non-soldered cable will prove this theory correct beyond any shadow of a doubt.
- Solid copper terminals, tin coated for superior corrosion resistance
- 600 volt capacity
- Terminals are NOT shrink wrapped. Again, 40 years of independent research has shown us that shrink wrap looks good and is aesthetic at best, but has proven to be nothing more than a "corrosion catcher". We've seen too many cables over the years corrode ONLY directly under the "corrosion catcher" shrink wrap, but no where else. By not installing shrink wrap, the cable will trap less corrosive gases and acid in this area, allowing such to disapate and evaporate, and prolong the life of cable.
Made in America by American workers! Soon to be produced right here at our Banner Elk, NC facility.
We also offer just a 4 Gauge Battery Cable Set which includes four 10" and one 13" battery cables for use with both DCS and PDS electric 36 volt Medalist and TXT Model E-Z-GO Golf Carts made from 1994 to present.
